17th Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards
The award was made to the company responsible for introducing effective safety measures producing demonstrable improvements in occupational health and safety or risk reduction. This may involve either the movement of freight or by any mode carrying freight.
Qube Ports and Bulk won this award on the back of a remarkable 3.4 years lost time injury free at Portland. This actually equates to more than a quarter of a million man hours without a lost time injury among its 90 employees, many of whom are involved in high risk work.
The Operations Manager at Portland David Bothe says “Portland safety is about people it’s about looking after your mates, if you see any of your work mates working unsafely you stop them. “

The award was accepted by Michael Sousa Director Ports. Michael stated in his acceptance speech “This is an acknowledgement that Qube has implemented safe systems of work as we continue to strive to deliver a safe work place for our employees and a safe operating environment for our Clients, vessels and cargo.”
